The problem

Members said they wanted to save more but forgot to move money after payday. The existing savings transfer was a manual, five-step flow that most people used once and abandoned.

What needed to be done

Design a split that sets itself up once and runs on every deposit, and prove it helps before building the full feature.

How the right problem was found

I mapped where members dropped out of the old flow and found that the amount field caused most of the abandonment: people did not know what to enter. I replaced it with presets (5%, 10%, 15%) and a plain-language preview of what lands in savings each month. We A/B tested the presets against a free amount field for four weeks.

The outcome, measured

The preset version won clearly and became the default. Engineering shipped it to everyone the following sprint.
