CuttingMaster: pattern drafting platform
A PHP platform that generates true-to-scale sari blouse patterns from 14 body measurements.
The problem
Tailors traditionally draft sari blouse patterns by hand from proportional rules that are undocumented and vary from tailor to tailor, so the craft depends on individual people being available.
What needed to be done
Encode the drafting rules as software that produces a cutting-accurate pattern from body measurements, and wrap it in a product boutiques and wholesalers can use.
How the right problem was found
The core problem was turning proportional rules into geometry that works on real bodies, for example deriving waist shaping from the chest-to-waist difference. I worked in millimetres so output holds at real-world scale, added range checks to the measurement form to catch typos at entry, and tested that the same rules scale across the 14 measurements and across women, men, boys and girls.
The outcome, measured
Drafting no longer depends on one person. Measurements persist and are searchable, and a pattern can be printed or projected onto cloth at true scale on demand. Live at cuttingmaster.in.
