The problem

Teachers at partner schools checked submissions across three tools and a spreadsheet. During grading week they lost time just finding who was missing work.

What needed to be done

Design one screen that answers "who still owes me work?" in a few seconds, as part of a small design team.

How the right problem was found

I interviewed seven teachers and watched two use the existing tools. They wanted the list sorted by who needed attention, not by name. I sketched three options and tested low-fidelity prototypes with five teachers, then refined the favourite and tested a second round.

The outcome, measured

The team adopted the design for the next release, and teachers in the final test found missing work in under ten seconds.
