Geo-Spatial Reporting
Redesigned a dense geo-spatial analytics tool around the decisions it supports, and proved it with a working Angular prototype.
The problem
Geo-spatial product-trial data decided how products were positioned by product, conditions and region. The dense analytics interface suited analysts but was hard for business stakeholders to use before decision meetings.
What needed to be done
Make the positioning decisions easier to reach for business stakeholders without losing the depth analysts needed.
How the right problem was found
I combined stakeholder interviews, contextual inquiries with end users (including the workarounds they relied on), a GAP analysis against the new requirements and behavioural data analysis. Together they showed that the fix was structural: the navigation did not follow the decisions the tool supports. I rebuilt the information architecture around those decisions, made navigation consistent and created a component and template set so new report types inherit the structure.
The outcome, measured
A working Angular prototype proved the design in the browser instead of stopping at static comps. It worked on mobile and across browsers, and was validated against the non-functional requirements with QA.
